A pentatonic scale consists of 5 notes, which are a "normal" scale. With this instrument, the 5 notes D E * G A H D E * G were taken from a D major scale. The pentatonic scale contains no half-tone, but a small minor third KT, whose position is marked with a star. Melodies and chords played with these 5 notes always sound "right". The deepest sound is here the D, but the fundamental tone is the E, so this xylophone is in E minor pentatonic! It therefore harmonizes very well with C-instruments (e.g., recorder).
